African-American Health Information & Resource Center
Restoring health. Preserving hope.
The African-American Health Information & Resource Center (AAHIRC) is more than a building — it is a sanctuary for healing, knowledge and equity. Rooted in the mission of St. Joseph’s/Candler of health access for all people, this Center is a beacon of possibility in the face of systemic disparities.
Strategically located in a historically underserved area of Savannah, AAHIRC directly addresses the deep, persistent impact of poverty, which too often feeds cycles of crime, food insecurity, housing instability and poor health outcomes. Here, we break that cycle by meeting our neighbors where they are, providing them with free, culturally relevant, life-saving services. We see our mission as more than beating statistics. We are building lasting community trust and shaping health equity as the standard — not the exception.
Free summer camps for kids
We believe healthy habits and self-confidence start young. Our free summer camps equip children with the tools they need to live vibrant, healthy, and empowered lives. Each summer, the AAHIRC hosts a variety of enriching and educational camps designed to empower youth through skill-building and wellness. In past years, children have learned to cook nutritious meals at the Healthy Kids Cooking Camp, explored responsibility and caregiving in the Babysitter’s Camp, and developed business ideas and confidence at the Kids Entrepreneur Camp. These camps are fun, engaging and completely free, providing valuable knowledge in a safe, supportive environment.
To learn more about upcoming opportunities or to inquire about the 2025 summer camp schedule, please call the Center at 912-447-6605.
All camps are free and open to the public.

The Center is here to serve as a central gathering point for resources and empowerment — right in the neighborhood, where it’s needed most.
A revolutionary model of health justice
The African-American Health Information & Resource Center is a key partner in the African-American Community Health Initiative — a grassroots effort by St. Joseph’s/Candler and The 100 Black Men of Savannah, Inc. Together, we are changing the narrative on Black health by creating pathways to prevention and education. We aren't waiting for health systems to catch up. We're bringing wellness to the people, by the people.
This is healthcare that heals the whole person.
This is service grounded in love, justice and dignity.
This is AAHIRC.
Let’s build a healthier future together.
